Heavy plate for hydropower engineering

Hydroelectric power plants incorporate a large range of steel components, including penstock lines, spiral casings, gates and suction pipes - elements for which heavy plate from Dillinger Hütte GTS is the ideal choice.

Here, of course, the word "heavy" refers only to the dimensions available - a thickness of 200 millimeter is no problem at all - but not to the steel itself - our plate may be "heavy", but it is never "crude" - it is supplied in grades entirely worthy of classification as high-technology materials, offering optimum durability and maximum workability. Despite yield strengths of up to 460 MPa, our thermomechanically rolled DI-MC fine-grained structural steels achieve outstanding mechanical strength, toughness and resistance to embrittlement, and equally excellent weldability. And our high-tensile quenched and tempered DILLIMAX fine-grained structural steels offer even greater mechanical strength, with yield stresses ranging up to 1,100 MPa. Thanks to their extremely low alloying-element content, they nonetheless remain exceptionally tough, and easy to work and weld.

The penstock lines in Iceland's Káhranjúkar hydroelectric plant were produced from DI-MC and DILLIMAX heavy plate.

Because Dillinger Hütte GTS knows the components that are needed in hydropower engineering, our heavy plate is supplied not simply straight from the mill but can, instead, also be semi-finished if required, in the form, for example, of thermally cut components for traverse rings, or of generator sickle plates with improved deformation properties perpendicular to the surface.
