Europe's first spherical gas storage tank consisting of thermomechanically rolled plate has now been completed on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. The heavy plate, comprising cold-dished sphere segments in the sour-gas-resistant DICREST 10 grade, was supplied from Dillingen. No other bidder could offer Dillinger Hütte's unique combination of sophisticated heavy fabrication and high sour-gas resistance - particularly since still more special properties were needed, including exceptional low-temperature toughness. Dillinger Hütte GTS, on the other hand, had an outstanding opportunity here to deploy its innate strategic advantage - single-sourcing of all requisites, from the steel to the associated fabricated components. The sphere segments, totaling 1,450 tonnes, were delivered ready for assembly to the contractor responsible for construction of the tank.
