37,000 tonns for twenty-three bridges
The high-speed TGV Méditerranée rail line from Valence to Marseilles features no less than twenty-three bridges, all of them architecturally significant reinforced-concrete structures, and including the well known examples at Cavaillon, Orgon and Cheval Blanc. They were designed to achieve not only elegance, however, but also exceptional cost-effectiveness in their construction.
The use of heavy plate from Dillinger Hütte GTS was therefore an obvious decision. A total of 37,000 tonnes was supplied, in unusual dimensions, in some cases - lengths of up to 36 meters, widths of up to 5.2 meters, and thicknesses up to 250 millimeters, with individual item weights ranging as high as 36 tonnes.
