Sustainability & Environment

Corresponding to the corporate vision and environmental guidelines, Dillinger Hütte prides itself on continually working internally in the entire corporation to promote sustainable, environmentally considerate and resource conserving economics and production.

Dillinger Hütte GTS is often called “Grüne Hütte”, or “green steel mill”, for obvious reasons. Directly located at the main factory in Dillingen, visitors can – even till this day – encounter the castle and park of Barons de Lenoncourt, who founded the steel mill in 1685. Overall, a total of 500 acres of carefully cultivated forest and meadow land belong to the factory premises. Our extraordinary commitment to environmental protection is reflected by our cooperation with universities, colleges, research institutes and partners from other industries, with whom we conduct joint research projects on the application of innovative environmental protection technologies.

Innovative products made from steel such as wind power plants or modern power stations save six times as much CO2 as is produced during their manufacture.

Not least, the very material that Dillinger Hütte produces – steel – satisfies the sustainability principle more clearly than virtually any other: through its versatile applications and possibilities for use, steel makes a valuable contribution to protecting the environment and climate. No other material is produced in such an environmentally compatible process as steel. When steel has fulfilled its purpose after a few decades or generations it becomes scrap, which is a valuable raw material that can be completely recycled in the steel production process as many times as desired and can be reintroduced in its entirety into the economic cycle.
