In October 2013, Europe‘s biggest pump storage power station La Muela in Spain was inaugurated.
The plant situated in the valley oft he Jucar river has a capacity of 2,000 MW. It was built for Iberdrola, a Spanish producer of renewable energy, and represents an investment of 1.37 Billion US-Dollar. Construction phase lasted seven years; several thousands of working places were created due to contracts with more than 30 companies int the region of Valencia. Iberdrola is focused on renewable energy, particularly hydropower, in which it has a worldwide capacity of nearly 10,000 MW. Further projects are planned in order to strengthen the position as a leading developper of hydropower technology. Dillinger has delivered 5,330 t of plates in the grades S690QL1, DILLIMAX500ML and S355J2 in thickness of 20 – 180 mm for the penstocks of this project.
