Green power production in the Irish Sea
In December 2009 the offshore-wind park Rhyl Flats was officially put into operation in Liverpool Bay about 8 km off the coast of Wales. It is a part of ‘Round 1’ of UK’s offshore wind farm programme which was established in 2000 and that is regarded as one of the most important projects of the Crown Estate in the use of renewable energy. The park consists of 25 wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 107 m and a total operating performance of 90 MW. For the monopile foundations Dillinger delivered about 10,000 t thermomechanically rolled plates in thicknesses up to 76 mm. The whole amount of plates was edge-trimmed by machining in the Heavy Fabrication Division of Dillinger.
