Steel from Dillinger is known all over the world, from New York to Tokyo. It can be found in impressive buildings like the headquarters of the French daily newspaper “Le Monde” in Paris or in London’s tallest building, the “Twentytwo”. That’s why we have given our path to carbon-neutral steel production an international name: “Pure Steel+”. Why “Pure”?
„Pure” stands for the high quality of our steel, which is already helping to advance the energy and mobility transition. “Pure” also stands for the dedication and efforts of our employees, whose strong commitment is making the transformation process possible, and for their pride in being part of this important project. We are marking our carbon-reduced steel with the plus sign. To ensure that our customers around the world can immediately recognize the added value of our steel innovations, we are affixing it directly to our products.
The world’s largest offshore wind farm to date, “Hornsea 2" in the UK, Denmark’s largest offshore facility, “Kriegers Flak" and “Borssele III und IV" off the Dutch coast: Dillinger’s special plate is in demand for offshore wind energy projects worldwide.
High-capacity solar power plants have also been built with Dillinger’s help, including the first solar tower power plant in South Africa and Spain’s Andasol 1.
Dillinger Stahl has also been used in the construction of the Brazilian hydroelectric power plant on the Rio Madeira, the Káhranjúkar plant in Iceland, which had the highest downpipes in the world at the time and the pumped-storage power plant in Vianden, Luxembourg
Steel from Saarland has long been a powerful driver of the energy transition. Now as Pure Steel+.
Our goal: Climate-neutrality by 2045. To achieve this, we are focusing on the use of hydrogen, on electric steel production and on recycling steel scrap. Construction of a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant and two electric arc furnaces (EAF) will begin in Dillingen and Völklingen in 2023, and production of 3.5 million tons of “green” steel per year is to start in 2027/2028. Our aim is to cut carbon emissions by 55 percent by 2030 – 4.9 million metric tons per year. We are converting 70 percent of our production directly to climate-friendly methods in the first phase – subject to the approval of public funds. In a second phase, a third EAF will be completed by 2045, enabling us to produce a total of 4.9 million tons of climate-neutral crude steel per year.
